I served in the Navy.

Jack McLemore, retired educator and World War II veteran, was born, September 26, 1924, to Emmett and Myrtle (Peniska) McLemore at the family home in the Lyons community. Jack passed away in the same home at Lyons, on October 5, 2017, at the age of 93. Jack was an enrolled member of both the Cherokee Nation and the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska. As a young boy, he was baptized into the Baptist Church. During World War II, he enlisted in the Navy and served as a Seabee in the Pacific Campaign. Upon his return from the war, he finished high school at U.G. School where he met Lillian Sanders. This meeting evolved into a marriage that would last 63 years and produce five children. Jack earned his Bachelors of Science from Northeastern State College and taught at Cave Springs School near Bunch, and, briefly in, Grants, New Mexico. He completed his teaching career at Stilwell Junior High. After retirement Jack volunteered his service to the Adair County Sheriff’s Department as an auxiliary deputy. Jack and Lillian enjoyed traveling and having family gatherings. The home in Lyons was a center of activity, especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Jack has now rejoined Lillian in their heavenly home.
Jack was preceded in death by his mother and father, his wife, Lillian; two sisters, Katherine Platt and Polly Riley; and a granddaughter, Mary Jolene Bradley. He is survived by son Dennis McLemore, wife Regina, of Stilwell, and children: Joel McLemore and wife Adela, of Benicia, California, Alison Kinback and husband David, of Byng, Oklahoma; son Bill McLemore, of Stilwell, and children: Angela Jones, Melinda Cookson, of Tahlequah, Tracy Phelps of Van Buren, Arkansas, Frank McLemore, Jonathan McLemore, of Stilwell; daughter Paula McLemore, of Keys, Oklahoma, and children: Denoah Bradley, wife Kimberly of Altus, Oklahoma, and Sarah Peakheart, husband David, of Stillwater, Oklahoma; daughter Mary Davis and husband Charles (Willy) of Stilwell, and children: Robyn Ketcher, husband Josh, of Stilwell, Robert Jacome , wife Shea, of Brighton, Tennessee, Tina Bahn, husband Michael, of Springdale, Arkansas, Steven Davis, of Stilwell, Matthew Davis, wife Tabitha, of Sallisaw, Joe Davis, wife Tracy, of Salina, Oklahoma , and daughter, Lisa Chair and husband, Perry (Pete) of Stilwell and children, Amanda Lemasters , husband, Derrick, of Stilwell, Skye Maxey, husband AJ, of Bixby.
