Tahlequah, OK- Memorial Services for Jay G. Porterfield will be held at 10:00 am Friday March 2, 2012 at the Go Ye Village Chapel with Chaplain Paul Tavener officiating. Inurnment will follow at 12:00 pm in the Ft. Gibson National Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home Tahlequah, OK.

Jay G. Porterfield the son of Robert and Edythe (Gatewood) Porterfield was born July 1, 1921 in Holton, Kansas and departed this life to be with his Lord on February 22, 2012 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma at the age of 90 years, 7 months and 21 days.

Jay taught at Oklahoma State University for 30 years before retiring in 1981. He moved to Tahlequah in 1988 and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tahlequah. He was a Graduate of Iowa State and he Piloted Non-Rigid Airships or Blimps during World War II over the Pacific. Jay was a special man to many and touched many lives in his 90 plus years. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ernestine (Spear) Porterfield; siblings Leota Biggart, Hugh Porterfield, Richard Porterfield, Gray Porterfield, Marion Porterfield and Gordon Porterfield.

He is survived by a loving family which includes his daughter Edythe Jane Porterfield of Casa Grande, AZ; grandchildren Jason Temple of Casa Grande, AZ, Laura Annette Rolland of Oologah, OK and Leah Marie Freeman of Casa Grande, AZ; and great grandchildren Justin Leon Temple, Daniel Allen Temple, Dakota Freeman, Destany Freeman and Dalton Rolland. Many nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives also survive him.
